Experimental assessment on machinability performance of CNT and DLC coated HSS tools for hard turning

The present work investigates the deposition of carbon nanotubes (CNT) over HSS tool. Also, it assesses machining capacity coated tool with respect to some most important aspects machinability, such as surface roughness, cutting tool-tip temperature, forces, wear, and service life. Plasma Enhanced Chemical Vapour Deposition (PECVD) technique was used deposit CNTs substrate. To recognize dense CNTs, microstructural analysis carried out through Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM) Raman spectroscopy. Further, a scratch test embedded validate bonding strength covered layer Machining experiments were performed using CNT Diamond-Like Carbon (DLC) tools. experimental outcomes for three different environments shows that represent viable candidate harder materials. We have observed dramatic reduction tip temperature forces due excellent mechanical thermal properties CNTs. Indeed, tools prove their suitability when compared DLC wear demonstrated much lower condition comparing coating one. This translated in longer life tool, which about 28 min only marginal failure under high conditions
